2019 California Adventure's Halloween Time

Special Events

In all the years we have been going to Disneyland, we had never been during Halloween time. Our mom would never let us miss school and Michaela always had ice skating competitions in October. So in our first year with an annual pass we made a point of going to the park as much as possible during Halloween time; we went to the parks a total of six times! For anyone who is a lover of Halloween, Disneyland Parks do not disappoint.

1. The Decorations: The decorations at the park during this time are amazing!! The attention to detail is mind-blowing. Whether you are a pumpkin enthusiast or a Nightmare Before Christmas fanatic, Disney has something for everyone. We particularly were impressed with Cars Land. All the creative decorations were great. The jack-o'-lantern like caution cones were so massive!! Definitely tones of photo ops here.

2. The Characters: During the Halloween season there are some new characters out in about. Naturally the season calls for a higher number of Villains than usual. We were able to take a picture with Cruella and The Queen of Hearts. We were not able to catch Maleficent in time (she was not regularly scheduled, but could be found behind the castle). It was also fun taking pictures with Jack and Sally. During the Halloween season, Jack is in his Pumpkin King suit and afterwards he puts on his Sandy Claus suit.

3. The Snacks: There are so many fall themes snack (insert pumpkin spice). My favorite snack was the horchata churros in California Adventures, near Plaza De La Familia. We also liked the Honest Abe apple cider in California Adventures as well. Michaela was most excited to get her refillable popcorn cauldron. This is  Whenever there is a special event going on in the parks we always have to grab a food guide to see what new goodies are in store.

4. Firework Show: Disney is really stepping up their projection game for these fireworks shows. This year's show features projections on the castle, It's A Small World, down main Street, AND on the Matterhorn!! There was a giant Jack Skelington narrates the entire show. There was even a giant zero that made an appearance. This is a show that can not be missed.

5. Plaza De Familia: Dia De Los Muertos (DDLM) holds a special place in our hearts. The celebration of life and remembering departed loves ones is a cultural practice of Belizian, so DDLM resonates with us. We loved that the plaza included a celebration of everlasting bonds where you could tie a memory of a loved one who has passed away. It was also cool to take a picture with a Miguel puppet. It was impressive to see how expression a puppet could be.
